FAQs
Here’s a complete list of frequently asked questions with detailed answers.
What is the connection between cognitive skills and giftedness, near-giftedness, or talents?
Cognitive skills are the core mental abilities our brains use to think, learn, remember, reason, and solve problems.
These include memory, processing speed, logical reasoning, verbal and non-verbal comprehension, and creative thinking.
Giftedness is often marked by exceptional strength in one or more of these domains.
The MyGiftedness Cognitive Assessment identifies these strengths, even when school performance doesn’t reflect them,
allowing us to build learning experiences from the inside out — focusing on how a child thinks, not just what they know.
What is the MyGiftedness Cognitive Assessment, and why is it important for my child?
The MyGiftedness Cognitive Assessment is a research-based tool that evaluates your child’s cognitive strengths,
creativity, learning preferences, and thinking styles. It goes beyond academics to identify how your child processes
complex information and solves problems. This insight enables us to create a customized enrichment path based on their true potential.
How does Giftedness change as your child gets older ? (create a age timeline based on piaget’s cognitive mile stones)
Based on Jean Piaget's (Renowned Swiss Psychologist) theories on child and cognitive development, which he divides into 4 universal
stages
What is the connection between cognitive skills and giftedness, near-giftedness, or talents?
Common signs/behaviors gifted children exhibit are:
- showcasing deep interest in multiple topics,
- strong imagination & creativity,
- continuous curiosity (asking a lot of questions),
- unique problem-solving abilities
- Strong sensitivity to others
It is important to note that these signs will differ among individuals hence it is crucial to test your child's
giftedness with our MyGiftedness assessment, to fully understand their type of giftedness. Along with how best to
support them and their abilities for life-long flourishing.
What are Cognitive Skills and how is it related to giftedness?
Possibilities with being identified as a Gifted Child?
Once a child has been identified as gifted, they can begin receiving the right kind of support, challenges, and
stimulation to help further refine their natural strengths and grow into lifelong skills.
Which results with the child having stronger personal confidence and academic success. In the long-term, gifted children
may have an advantage in college applications, scholarships, and developing specialist skills that open doors to exciting
careers and future opportunities. We can help introduce and guide you and your child so that you do not miss such opportunities.
What is the difference between Giftedness and Near-Giftedness?
Note: It is possible for Near-Gifted children to achieve giftedness if their skills
are further developed with enrichment, deeper learning, confidence-building, and steady challenge
- Sensorimotor Stage (0–2 years of age):
- Babies begin learning about the world around them through exploration of their senses and physical actions (touching and grabbing). It is important to keep exposing your child to new types of things during this period as they can quickly understand patterns in their environment.
- Pre-Operational Stage (3–6 years):
- Children begin to think symbolically (red = stop & green = go) and use language. Gifted children will demonstrate a strong imagination, early language skills, strong memory, and deeper questions than typical for their age.
- Concrete Operational Stage (7-11 years of age) (Ideal age to administer MyGiftedness Assessment):
- Children begin to think logically and problem solve. Giftedness becomes more apartments through quick problem-solving, understanding complex ideas, developing intense interests and/or advanced academic skills.
- Formal Operational (12+ years of age):
- Children begin to reflect and be able to understand abstract concepts. This is also where our brains begin a process known as synaptic pruning, where unused and irrelevant connections throughout your brain are removed to make space and strength more useful connections in your brain for more efficient information retrieval. Gifted children will demonstrate advanced/ focused reasoning, creativity, deep focus, and the ability to understand big, complex concepts. Only if their giftedness is properly supported, challenged and nurtured.

- What is cognition?
- Cognition is the process through which our brains are able to think, learn, remember, apply and understand information that we collect from the world around us.
- What are cognitive skills
- Cognitive Skills are the specific mental abilities our brains use to help with decision making, problem solving, critical thinking, connecting ideas, etc. Cognitive skills are like different tools within a toolbox, it is important to understand how to use our tools so we can use them together.
- How is it related to giftedness
- Giftedness is when certain (or multiple) cognitive skills develop significantly faster than what is typical for the child's age. Which is demonstrated through the child's ability of advanced thinking, understanding, and problem-solving that makes giftedness visible
- What is Giftedness
- A child that is identified as Gifted, usually means they have an IQ of 130+ (are within the top 2%). Such children will learn extremely fast, think abstractly, ask deep “why/how” questions, and often feel emotions more intensely.
- Which is why gifted children require big academic adjustments to keep up with their ever growing curiosity like harder problems, faster classroom pacing, and more complexity. Otherwise their brains will no longer feel challenged and will lose this ability as they age.
- What is Near-giftedness
- A child that is identified as Near-Gifted, usually means they have an IQ range of 120–129 (top 5–10%). Similar to gifted children, they are also strong, quick learners and high achievers but follow a more typical learning curve. Hence they do not require significant academic curriculum changes. But still require their talents and skills to be nurtured and supported through extra challenge and enrichment.
